Below are pictures from one of my favourite adventures. They were taken in the mountains near Queenstown, NZ on a canyoning trip. Never heard of canyoning? Well, check it out. (It's almost better than whitewater kayaking.)
(Yes, that's me rappelling down a waterfall. It was unreal.)
(Another waterfall, but you get a better sense of scale here. Can you tell I'm not afraid of heights?)
(Because standing under a waterfall is incredible.)
(Sometimes we descended without rope. *grin*)
(And we went head-first a couple of times.)
(We may have jumped a couple times, too.)
So... yeah. That's canyoning. (We descended the first part of the canyon mostly by abseiling because the waterfalls were huge!! The second part still had a few abseils, but there were also tons of jumps, slides and scrambles. It was amazing. After a 40-min hike up and a 4.5 hour descent, I was exhausted and grinning like a madman!)
(I promise I don't have a death-wish. (I think it may be an adrenal deficiency. =) Next up: Extreme caving in Waitomo...)
