New Year's was... Excellent. We left the grandparents behind and headed west. I love heading west. I love heading west without the grandparents even more.
This year, we spent the holiday in Fernie. (Last year it was Canmore. I'm liking this tradition!) My older brother and his family always spend the winter holidays there and Steve's sister happens to be working on the ski hill this year...
Anyways, it ROCKED. On day one, we met my brother for some good ol' fashion cross country skiing. (Except it's not really old fashioned because we have succumbed to The Chariot. Which is the most amazing-est baby accessory ever.) And my brother insisted that we try a skijoring harness with the boy. I didn't think that it would work in a million years. I thought the boy would be a pulling, gnawing psycho, but! It turns out he's a skijoring genius. Which has made this winter into the Best Winter Ever.
Normally, I enjoy cross-country skiing, but I am a bit of a whiner. My husband is a tri-athlete in excellent shape, so he tends to get a wee bit ambitious when it comes to skiing/hiking... I tend to get tired. But with the dog pulling me?! It. Is. Fantastic. I can go for hours, up hills, down hills, and I can keep up to Steve!
We ended up skiing several hours every day. It was great. The boy was thrilled to be able to get out for so long every day - he loves skijoring! And the girl is also a huge fan of anything outdoors. She thought it was great.
Yes, those are booties on his feet. (On the forth day, he wore through them. *sigh*)
