K... bit of a break from the first 6 (or omg almost 8) months. It seems that being on a tropical island with a baby leaves far too much time for hanging out at the condo, so I actually have time to write...
The Airplane:
Was surprisingly uneventful... and easy. The flight to Calgary was quick and the girl was quite happy at being up so obscenely early and hanging out with mom and dad. I was able to nurse as we were ascending, but I don't think the air pressure was even bugging her. In Calgary, we waited. For four hours. Gah. Frances actually took an hour-long nap on the floor of the airport which was unexpected and much appreciated. After a couple of hours, we were able to enter the US security part of the airport before boarding. This took about 1.5 HOURS. Thank goodness for the Ergo. (Frances loves the Ergo!) For the 7(or 8??) hour flight to Maui, we were able to get a middle row of seats. Which. Was. AWESOME. Frances nursed tons, slept a fair bit, and thoroughly enjoyed reading the instructions for what to do when the plane crashes. Also, I still hate Air Canada. Old plane, no food served unless you want to buy gross $10 sandwiches, grouchy staff and, just... meh. (Dear Singapore Airlines, Please start up shop in Canada. Love, Natalie.) Anyway, we got into Maui, rented the car (I was TIRED by this time) and drove about 40 mins to our condo. So... better than expected travel.
The Sleep:
The girl went to sleep no problem when we got in. Steve and I did not. We were exhausted, but too wound up, I think. Shortly after we got to sleep, the girl woke up. Then went to sleep. Then woke up. She decided that it was morning at about 3am, so Steve and her walked down to the beach. (I LOVE that he has no problem getting up in the morning with her no matter what insane time she decides to wake up at.) As of day three, she's pretty much back on schedule - bed at 7, up at 6:30-ish, good naps during the day... So, all-in-all, pretty sweet.
Child-Friendly Activities for Adrenaline Junkies:
Umm... Notsomuch. It's been pretty mellow so far. Day 1: beach, shopping, whale-watching (holy crap wow), eating yummy fruit. Day 2: drive to Hana, little hikes, play in BIG WAVES on some beach (don't worry- we took turns... after 10+ years of lifeguarding, I have severe water paranoia when in comes to kids.), blenderized drinks by RIDING A BIKE ATTACHED TO A BLENDER, got home late. Today: beach, more beach, groceries, naptime, going to the aquarium thingy this afternoon.
K... Am tired now. Ciao.
